Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a key to my home?
Not always.  If your pet usually stays outside, and you don’t wish for the pet sitter to have access to the inside of your home, you may leave everything outside in a sheltered and easily accessible area.  Fresh water must be available.  But remember, all of our pet sitters are police checked and chosen for their professional attitudes and work ethics.  Your home will be treated with the upmost respect at all times.

Can I just leave a side door or garage open for you?
Due to security reasons, we will not agree to this.  Every door that is entered and exited through by our pet sitters is locked immediately after use to reduce the risk of your home being entered by unauthorised persons.

How will you store my key(s)?
Security and safety are both at the top of the list when it comes to looking after your home and keys.  When not in use your key will be kept in a lockbox – away from all of your personal information and will be labelled only with a code, not your address.

Can I leave a copy of my key with you for future services?
Yes.  This is actually our preferred option, but not compulsory by any means.  There is however a key transfer fee involved if we have to pick up or drop off your keys $5.00 plus travel charges.

What if my pet becomes sick or injured while I’m away?
All of our pet sitters know basic pet first aid, carry kits and are able to attend to minor injuries.  You will be contacted ASAP if your pet is ill or injured or requires veterinary care.  This will be discussed further at your free consultation.  We also keep a daily log and monitor your pet(s).  We note if they have eaten/drank and how much and keep a medication log (if applicable).  We also note any obvious changes in your pet and if we deem necessary, contact you.

Will my pet have the same sitter every time?
We believe that it is important to keep to routines and habits and allow your pet to become relaxed and excited about seeing their new friend, so where possible your pet will have the same sitter.  There will be times, however that this will not be possible (illness etc).

What do I need to provide?
You need to leave enough of everything that your pet needs on a daily basis for the entire time of your trip away.  A list will be given to you to help with this.
We’ll also need your contact details for while you’re away and the details of friends or relatives that we can contact should there be an emergency, as well as your vet.
You’ll also need to show us where you keep items that we will need (food, cat litter, broom etc).

Are there other options than the ones listed?
Yes!  Those three timed packages merely reflect the most popular combinations.  A package can be customised to suit your needs and also the needs of your pet(s) during your in-home, free consultation.   You can also choose which of the included and extra services you would like and even request something that isn’t listed (this may incur an extra fee).

Can I book without the consultation?
We like to meet you and your pet(s) before we pet sit.  This enables us to get all of the important information we need to do our job properly, create a relaxed environment for your pet(s) and give you your money’s worth.  Knowing your pet’s habits and personality helps us to make the experience an incredibly positive one for them.   We can also find out exactly what you want us to do and see where light switches are, how locks or alarms work, and where things are stored.  For future bookings, you will not need a consultation, provided you or your pet’s circumstances have not changed.

How far in advance do I need to book?
As soon as you can!  We do recommend that you book at least 2 weeks ahead, and even sooner for bookings during peak times.

When and how do I pay?
A 50% deposit of the service fee is required at the time of booking.  This will be returned to you should you wish to cancel the booking 8 days or more before the scheduled date.   The remainder of your account will be due within 3 days of your return date.   An invoice will be provided and include any extra services that are requested or required while you are away - such as a vet visit, or out of pocket expenses.  Our preferred methods of payment are cash, cheque or direct deposit.

What if I come back early?
If your account is in credit, you will receive a refund for the amount of unused time, or a credit on your next service from us, so long as you inform us before you return of your new return date.

What if I need to stay longer than I booked for?
You’ll need to contact us as soon as possible to organise an extension and discuss your options.  You may need to send additional funds for food etc if required.

How do I arrange a consultation and/or booking?
You can request one over the internet at www.petsplay.com.au click on the "contact us" tab and fill in the form.
